I AM NOT A SPA TECHNICIAN. , YOU ARE NOT A SPA TECHNICIAN. WE ARE NOT SPA TECHNICIANS.

We have been lied to from the beginning. Maybe it was an accident, maybe it was intentional. All I know is when I learned I was not a spa tech, I was much happier and more successful. I gained more clients, I educated clients better on retail and thus grew my sales, my clients were happier, also.

So, If we aren’t spa technicians, what are we?

I asked this question in one of my favorite spa’s to teach at. Glen Ivy in Corona, California. There is not much as exciting as having 40-60 LMT’s on staff at all time. This place is HUGE!! and did I mention GORGEOUS! Not to mention some of their staff has been there for over 2 decades! TWO DECADES!!

But back on track, I was teaching my “Spa is an Experience” class, and I was given many AWESOME answers to that question: “What are we?”

We don’t do services. I cringe at that word. What is a service anyway. Here’s a list of services for you.

  1. Oil changes

  2. a house painted

  3. a leaking pipe fixed

  4. a car repair

  5. teeth cleaning

  6. a car detailing

  7. landscaping

  8. etc….

Those, my curious little ma$$age people, are services. What we do is create experiences! We take the stress away from people for about 50minutes or more , transport them to another place, a place they want to be. We change their senses with aroma, products, techniques, stories, and breath in ways no plumber does. (Nothing personal to anyone who is a plumber, you are a much needed trademan/woman and I thank you for fixing what I can not.) An experience changes you. And that , is what we do .

You and I, we are Experience Creators.

Now is the time to reflect on your “experience” you provide. Are you providing a service or experience? Be honest. If you are feeling trapped and provide a service, Look for ways to enhance it, upgrade it or change it. Reach out to our community for advise, see what they have done.
